Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
